What we offer

The Safe and Equal Learning Partnership (SELP) offers a range of staff development in safeguarding and equality & diversity for the further education and skills sector. Our programmes take account of legislation and Ofsted inspection. They are practical, participative, draw on best sector practice and are certificated.

Programmes are suitable for all staff at all levels of seniority working in general further education colleges, sixth form colleges, independent providers and adult and community learning.

The law requires all staff to be trained and updated regularly in safeguarding. SELP’s safeguarding programmes – face to face and online – support providers to meet their legal duties, achieve excellence and become inspection ready.

We use blended learning to ensure practical, highly participative events. Face to face training is enhanced by high quality supporting materials and is suitable for groups of all sizes.

Open Programmes

Our open public programmes are held across the country, throughout the year. Participants join other sector professionals for expertly facilitated staff development in comfortable, well equipped, centrally located conference venues. Unless stated otherwise, programmes run from 9.30am for a 10.00am start to 4.00pm. Our open programmes can be run in-house for individual providers or groups of providers. Open programme places cost £215. We do not charge VAT.

In-house programmes

We can create unique programmes of any duration to meet the specific safeguarding needs of individual providers. These can be new and bespoke, or can be a bespoke adaptation of an existing open programme. They may include, for example, versions of Designated Safeguarding officer training, “Safer Staff Recruitment” and “Keeping staff safe.”

Online learning

Safeguarding in Action supports staff develop the safeguarding skills and knowledge required by statutory guidance and OfSTED.

Regularly updated, comprehensive, interactive and certificated, it is ideal for training large and smaller cohorts of staff, efficiently and cost effectively.

Using Safeguarding in Action will support providers meet their statutory duty to train and update all their staff in safeguarding.


Our webinar programme covers key topics of importance. They last 70 minutes and facilitate flexible, intensive, cost effective learning, saving the time and travel costs of face – to – face training. Our webinar programme offers a simple and effective way of meeting the duty placed on providers by the 2016 statutory guidance to provide staff with regular safeguarding updates.

Facilitator programme

This one day programme trains and licences participants to deliver basic, short safeguarding training modules, including an induction module, to staff in their organisation. The facilitator programme familiarises colleagues with the materials and supports them to practice delivering content to their peers.

Health checks

Our objective, expert safeguarding health checks will review all aspects of your safeguarding practice. A confidential, comprehensive report will highlight effective and non-effective practice, and offer constructive advice on improvement strategies.

Health checks are helpful in preparing for inspection, and in establishing benchmarks for quality improvement.
